“My internship has been an amazing adventure!”

Our Class of 2022 is currently completing the capstone in their two-year diploma studies - a three-month internship at a Kigali-based company in their chosen industry.

An internship is a transformative experience for our students as it provides an opportunity to apply all that they have learned in the classroom in a professional context. The experience also allows students to develop their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, and offers a competitive advantage as they pursue a permanent position.

Below, four students share updates from their internship experiences about the knowledge, skills, and confidence they’ve gained along the way.

Vanessa Isimbi Uwera, Hospitality Management, Class of 2022

Junior Marketing Officer and Customer Relations Intern, Discovery International School

“I had a great experience when I did my internship! I worked in the Administration department, so I was part of the team that coordinates a lot of what happens in the company. This experience helped me see how things work in a business from the inside. I learned plenty of useful things, but one of the most important lessons was that leadership skills, consistency, and teamwork are key elements for a business to run appropriately. I knew from my studies that these skills were important, but this time I saw it with my own eyes.”

Divin Byiringiro, Information Systems, Class of 2022

UI/UX Designer Intern, SOLVIT Africa

“I've been an intern at SOLVIT Africa for about two months and my internship has been an amazing adventure! So far, I've progressed from having no experience to being a competent UI/UX designer by building two online applications. I am now a UI/UX designer, which was one of the first roles I admired and what I have aspired to become! By continuing to learn, I am now prepared to compete in the design field. I am excited to use my job to positively impact the world and raise the Davis College flag.”

Nabillah Gihozo, Hospitality Management, Class of 2022

Food & Beverage Attendant Intern, Kigali Marriott Hotel

“I am doing really well so far and am becoming more familiar with my workplace and my co-workers. I have learned to interact with guests well, because mostly they are not Rwandans so it has been interesting to learn how to cater to guests from different backgrounds. This week we learned more about service recovery and why service is important, which is helping me to understand how the theory of service can be put into practice in my role as a waitress. I am very happy to be here due to the standard of the company, Kigali Marriott.”

Prince Sano, Information Systems, Class of 2022

Data Analyst and System Analyst Intern, KLab

“I'm really enjoying my internship and doing well. In my role as a Data Analyst, I'm currently learning new skills in that area, then soon I'll start the practice of software analysis. One of the highlights so far has been learning about some software that I hadn’t come across before. For instance, there is this software called Rtila, which is used to extract data, and another tool that’s called Kutools, which is used to turn data into presentable information. This is practical knowledge that I know I can apply in my future job.”
