Welcome Back to Campus

A message from our newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Christine Osae, on the first day of the 2022 - 2023 academic year:

There’s just something–something unique and extraordinarily special–about beginning a new academic year, something magical that creates an incredible surge of energy and excitement. Whether it’s the thought of seeing a good friend after spending the summer months apart, or the idea of returning to beloved clubs and classes, the new academic year holds incomparable promise. The promise of opportunity: to branch out of our comfort zones, to maximize our learning opportunities, and to grow into ourselves as human beings.

“In many ways, we are required to start afresh this academic year like no other we have known in our lifetime… but we will face it together.”

For the Davis College community and for our faculty in particular, it is also the opportunity to reimagine education, implement innovative ideas that improve learning outcomes, differentiate instruction, and bond with our exceptional students. We may still be navigating the challenges of a post-pandemic world; our community is not exempt from that collective turmoil. And in many ways, we are required to start afresh this academic year like no other we have known in our lifetime. It is the year in which all the lessons, innovations, and care learnt during the pandemic will be put to task. But we will face it together, adapting to new needs, solving problems in new ways, and thriving in this new world. In this context, we come together stronger and more focused than ever before to prepare our students and alumni to adapt to ever-evolving global challenges.

This year, we are focusing on an approach to education that marries career-readiness and abundant professional opportunities with an ecosystem of holistic, human-centered care and understanding for our students and faculty. We are committed to providing support that sustains our learners and leaders throughout the entire arc of their lives. As I walked out of our faculty retreat last week, I felt an invigorating sense of optimism for the year ahead, no matter the challenges it might breed. And as I look around and witness the spirit of curiosity in every classroom today, I am confident that we are providing the best educational experience possible, on this beautiful first day of classes and every day that follows.

We are in the extremely important business of transforming the lives of young people, and we will do so as well as we possibly can. Because with students like ours, we must.

Christine Osae previously served as our Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academics, and has over 15 years of experience and expertise in critical pedagogy, curriculum integration, instructional design, educational administration and teaching English as a second language across different levels in both public and private institutions.
